Quarterly Tax Sumissions for Landlords from April 2026!
The Government is planning to create an additional tax compliance layer for landlords, laid out in the Chancellors Spring Statement recently.
Any landlord from 2028 with rental income in excess of £20,000pa will now be included in the the Governmnets 'Making Tax Digital' plans announced in the Spring Statement. This will add another burden to small landlords.
New tax filling regulations will apply from April 2026 to landlords with a rental income from property in excess of £50,000pa and this rule will extend the following year to landlords with incomes in excess of £30,000pa. This threshold will then be further reduced to £20,000pa in 2028.
Tax returns 4 times a year! We really don’t need this.
This is a cash flow measure for the treasury and many small landlords just wont be set up for this. This move will allienate smaller landlords but not the larger faceless institutional landlord. Maybe this is the Goverments aim?
The NRLA has leveled the accusation at Rachel Reeves that there was nothing in the statement to help the private Rented Sector (PRS).
Taxi! Get the lights!
